Fraser: Time to stop paying lip service to climate policies
CCA chairman Bernie Fraser says policy makers should stop paying “lip service” to 2C climate targets, and lamented cutting back renewable energy targets to suit sectoral interests. Fraser said the move to a low carbon world was “unstoppable” and Australia needed to get on board.

Finally, some light relief for the Renewable Energy Target
The draft final report of the IPCC Fifth Assessment Report has just been sent to government. Australia’s should read it. Carefully.

Renewables fear the worst as Tony Abbott targets clean energy
The clean energy industry plans a crisis meeting to discuss the future of renewables in as Tony Abbott leads the polls and calls on the Clean Energy Finance Corporation to cease work immediately. A dilution of the renewable energy target would make Australia unique in the world, and there is disagreement on whether concessions should be made.

CCA emissions review may come too late to embarrass Abbott
The Climate Change Authority’s review on Australia’s emissions targets may arrive too late to embarrass the Coalition’s climate change policy before the election. That’s a pity, because the Coalition continues to spout a lot of nonsense about carbon pricing and electricity taxes.

Fraser fears Abbott at mercy of fossil fuel lobby on renewables
Climate Change Authority chairman Bernie Fraser said he fears Abbott government would be swayed by the fossil fuel lobby’s attack on renewables, and dilute the LRET. He decries the short term nature of policy making, and explains why the CCA made its decision to shunt commercial solar PV into the capped large scale renewable energy target.

The CCA’s RET decision could stifle commercial solar growth
The recommendation that the RET be left unchanged is good news, but a number of the CCA’s other suggestions will dampen future solar growth.

Climate authority gives green light for boom in big renewables
The Climate Change Authority says the 41,000GWh target for large-scale renewables should remain – paving the way for a massive build-out of wind farms, and eventually solar farms. But the CCA has fiddled with the rooftop solar component, and that could be bad news for commercial scale solar PV.

Solar industry up in arms over 10-year payback limit
In the decade between 2010 and 2020, Australian homeowners are expected to invest more than $20 billion in rooftop solar installations. Some private forecasts suggest it could be as much as double that. But should these homeowners be limited to a rate of return that is substantially less than that of big utilities investing in fossil fuels or new transmission lines?
