RenewEconomy’s 10 million reasons to be cheerful

The RenewEconomy website passed a significant milestone on Monday, chalking up its 10 millionth page view since its launch in 2012, with nearly half the page views coming in the last 12 months.

The ten millionth page view, according to Google Analytics, occurred soon after 3pm on Monday, just after the newsletter was delivered into the inbox of the 9,000 readers who subscribe to the free newsletter, and who set a cracking daily “open rate” of 40 per cent – more than double the industry average, including weeklies and monthlies.

In just the past 12 months (the 2014/15 financial year), RenewEconomy recorded 4.8 million page views, and had 1.4 million unique visitors, a significant achievement for what is a niche – although incredibly important – subject site.

The big stories of the year: How India is tapping solar and China snubbing coal imports; How Tesla will accelerate decline of coal generators; the massive hikes in fixed charges in Australian networks; why solar will beat oil, even at $10/barrel; and the switching on of the world’s first multi-machine wave energy facility.

Social media is also growing, with Twitter now at nearly 10,000 followers, and Facebook at 4,000 likes.

RenewEconomy is a fully independent web site, and is clearly the number one source of renewable energy news and views in the country, keeping close tabs on climate policies and energy trends world-wide.

We’d like to thank all those who have supported RenewEconomy through their readership and contributions to the online discussion, and to those who have supported the website in kind, either through advertising and sponsorship, or in the case of some very generous individuals, through donations and “voluntary subscriptions.”

I absolutely agree with Jonathon – Reneweconomy is the leading renewable energy tech and policy website in Australia. Excellent reading and a significant contribution to political and technical issues around the low carbon transition underway in Australia.

well done. I open every edition, always find something to read and often read articles on the periphery of my interest to the end. Keep it up.

Great analysis of big business and poles and wires. What have we learned?

Congratulations Giles. RenewEconomy is an excellent source of news and harder to hear about information. Excellent site so I look forward to your continued hard work and endeavours to cover this field of technology and policy.

    New Vision:
From now on lets focus on a new vision of Australian’s needs being met by the sun on their own homes – rather than envisioning a more complex grid for them to pay for. The sun shines equally for everyone. Empowering technology not technology as noose around Australian’s necks.
