Regional centre gets Tesla fast charging stations

PRESS RELEASE

Melbourne, Monday 29 May – Tesla has added Watergardens Town Centre to its network of fast charging stations.

The shopping centre in regional Victoria, now offers access to Tesla Destination Charging to its customers within the centre’s car park from three new Tesla High Power Wall Connectors.

Joseph Galea, Watergardens Town Centre Manager, said the Tesla Destination Charging Bays are available to any member of the public who wishes to use them

Galea said they have seen as a significant rise recently in the number of electric cars visiting the centre and they are happy to support the growing movement toward a more sustainable mode of powering cars.

“We’re thrilled to have the opportunity to provide a centre location for Tesla owners to recharge their vehicles while on the go in the Taylors Lakes area,” he said.

The three charging bays are powered by user friendly High Power Wall Connectors provided and installed by Tesla and are located in the Watergardens Town Centre underground car park towards the back left (37o 41’57”s 144o 46’34”E) with best access via entry #1 from Melton Highway.

The Tesla Destination Charging program provides High Power Wall Connectors at key destinations for owners to conveniently charge whilst away from home for long periods. High Power Wall Connectors provide 32 amperage of power and are also delivered with Tesla vehicles at a time of purchase for home installation, making the device familiar to Tesla owners, and long distance

Looks like this is just a press release. Tesla destination chargers are popping up at a rate of 15-20 a month in Australia, there isn’t really anything different about these ones.

This is good news, but alas only for Tesla owners. People who drive other brands of EVs or PHEVs cannot charge through the Tesla connector, and thus are not helped by these developments. However, I have been told that the Tesla Destination Charging Program can make a contribution towards facilities for other EVs. Hopefully most of the organisations using that program are going the extra mile and providing for nearly all EVs.

Actually some other EVs *can* charge with these adaptors, through use of an adaptor. Whether or not Tesla (who pays for the charging unit) or the site host (who pays for the power) are happy with this is another question…

Watergardens is hardly regional; it’s an outer suburb of Melbourne.

Get up to 3 quotes from pre-vetted solar (and battery) installers.
