Homeowners will be able to make a positive impact on their finances as well as the environment, through a new solar initiative launched this week by NAB and Origin.
From Tuesday 28 November, 2017, NAB’s credit card rewards program will include the option for homeowners to put their points towards the purchase and installation of residential solar panels.
Under this pilot offer, customers can redeem 48,080 points from their NAB Rewards card to receive a $250 Origin e-voucher designed specifically to go towards the cost of installing solar electricity on their home. Customers will also receive an additional once-off $500 discount from Origin.
Australians can also receive 350,000 NAB Rewards points when they take out an eligible NAB Home Loan and Banking Bundle. When redeemed on NAB’s renewable energy offer, customers can unlock up to $2,250 in value to go towards a solar system for their home.
NAB Executive General Manager of Consumer Lending, Angus Gilfillan, said the initiative acknowledged a growing interest among home owners for energy alternatives.
“This offer not only helps to reduce the cost of installing solar panels, but also has flow-on savings for a customer’s energy bills and the environment,” Mr Gilfillan said.
“We know that cost is a significant factor for consumers when making a purchase, so we hope this initiative makes it easier and more affordable for Australians to make the switch to solar.”
This year, Origin has installed enough solar to power more than 5,000 Aussie homes.
Origin General Manager of Business, Solar and Energy Solutions, Ryan Willemsen-Bell, said Origin was excited to be working with NAB to help make it even easier for Australian homeowners to go solar.
“Solar is a great way for homes to lower their energy bills and reduce their carbon footprint, and it’s fantastic to be working with NAB to deliver these benefits in such a unique way,” Mr Willemsen-Bell said.
Mr Gilfillan said working across sectors was just one way NAB was helping to address climate change and supporting low carbon opportunities for customers.
“We have taken a leadership position in the transition to a low carbon economy through clean energy project finance and we’re now applying this expertise to the home owner market,” Mr Gilfillan said.
“Just this month we announced an increase in our environmental financing commitment from $18 billion by 2022, to $55 billion by 2025. We’ve also increased our commitment to source 50 per cent of our Australian electricity from renewable sources.”
