We were struck by this photo, taken from space from NASA’s Landsat 8 satellite, of the London Array, the world’s largest offshore wind farm.  The 175-turbine wind farm has a capacity of 630MW, reports Live Science, became operational on April 8 last year, and is about 20kms from England’s Kent and Essex coasts.
Even the photo makes the turbines look closely aligned, they are separated by between 640m to 1,200m, and stand 147 m tall.  The turbines sit on two natural sandbanks, in depths of up to 25m. The site was chosen because it was close to to onshore power grids and because it does not disrupt shipping lanes.
