Week beginning December 15

Woodside CEO Meg O’Neill has resigned to take up the role as CEO of BP. Woodside has appointed COO Liz Westcott as Acting CEO.

Western Australia government-owned utility Horizon Power has announced the appointment of Krystal Skinner as the chief executive officer, effective immediately.

The Australian Electric Vehicle Association (AEVA) has chosen Adelaide-based James Pickering to become the electromobility organisation’s incoming National President. James takes over from Chris Jones who served in the role for 4 years. Also changing hands is the Association’s treasurer, with Brisbane-based Nathan Gore-Brown taking over from Michael Day, and Joanne Oddie takes over from Richard Czumak as Vice President.

The Australian Energy Market Commission (AEMC) has announced the reappointment of Anna Collyer as chair of the Commission for a further five-year term.

Perth-based virtual power plant specialist Plico has appointed Alan Reid as its new chief operating officer, to drive its national expansion.

James Sturch is calling time on five-years as technical director at SolarEdge. Sturch says he is taking up a new role with the Australian Energy Market Operator, in the New Year, as part of AEMO’s DER Technical Integration Team.

The Clean Energy Investor Group has announced two new board members: Laura Caspari, managing director of renewables and batteries at Engie Australia and; Werther Esposito, the CEO of Potentia Energy.

Mark Williamson has retired from his role as an executive general manager of the Clean Energy Regulator after 13 years at the CER.

Week beginning November 24

The Clean Energy Council (CEC) has elected three directors to serve fresh three-year terms on its board: Jackie Brown from GE Vernova; Angela Catt, from Tilt Renewables, and; Dennis Freedman, from Aquila Clean Energy, were all re-elected from “a competitive field of 16 nominees,” the CEC says.

Week beginning November 17

Myles Carrucan is stepping down as CEO of Green Peak Energy and will be replaced in the role by Luke Butterworth. Hamed Fararoui has been appointed as the new Chief Operating Officer.

Paul Hitchins has been appointed head of comms at AGL Energy.

James Ha, head of research at Aurora Energy has stepped down so he can travel and climb some mountains.

The Energy Efficiency Council says has appointed Anna Freeman, formerly of the Clean Energy Council, as its first Head of Electrification.

The Australian Energy Regulator has announced the appointment of Matt Garbutt as Chief Executive Officer, effective immediately.

Kath Rowley has been named as the new Chief Executive Officer of the Climate Change Authority. She succeeds Brad Archer.

Dr Kate George has been named a director on the Board of the Clean Energy Finance Corporation.

Jo Evans has been nominated a director on the Board of Marinus Link.

Jack Hooper will transition from Chief Executive Officer to Director of Gem Energy.

Origin Energy says Greg Jarvis, Executive General Manager, Energy Supply and Operations, has decided to retire at the end of June 2026. 

Week beginning November 3

The NSW Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water has appointed Eleanor Wood as director of networks and pipeline policy.

Ausgrid has named Fatima Bazzi as the new Group Executive Customer, effective immediately.

Andrew Johnson is starting a new position as Senior Project Manager at TagEnergy. He was previously with Ace Power.

Akaysha Energy CEO Nick Carter has been named in Time Magazine’s Climate100 list.

Week beginning October 27

VicGrid has announced the appointment of a new board, chaired by Steve Rieniets whose experience in the energy sector includes senior leadership roles with AGL Energy. Deputy chair is Sarah Clarke and board members include experienced energy and finance executive David Stegehuis and former Clean Energy Council CEO Kane Thornton. A further three members of the Board will be appointed in the coming months.

Solar mounting, trackers, and energy storage company Clenergy has appointed Haydn Fletcher as general manager of Clenergy Australia and Samir Jacob as global marketing director.

PolarBlue says it has appointed Nino Ficca has joined as a strategic energy advisor. 

Cameron Garnsworthy has been appointed senior principal at QIC, where he will focus on pumped hydro projects. He is a former CEO of Sun Cable.

Week beginning October 20

Eytan Lenko (CEO) and Caroline Vu (chief of staff) are transferring from Boundless Earth to the Cannon-Brookes Collective, a new unit created to focus on the biggest global opportunities for decarbonisation

Professor Paul Simshauser, former head of Powerlink, has been named as the incoming CEO of Iberdrola Australia. He will replace Ross Rolfe, who will remain chairman.

David Fredericks, a former head of DCCEEW, and Daniel Walton have been appointed directors of Snowy Hydro.

Michael Mazengarb has started as the new Head of Corporate Accountability with Climate Integrity.

Jackie Trad, former deputy premier of Queensland, has started work as chief executive of the Clean Energy Council.

Week beginning October 13

Aaron Johnstone has resigned from his position as Queensland Renewable Energy Jobs Advocate. The position is to be abolished by the state government under its new energy roadmap.

Kira Rundel has left their role as Head of Strategy at RayGen and joined Rondo Energy as their new Commercial Director, Australia.

Ampcontrol thas appointed Gareth O’Reilly as Chief Executive Officer & Managing Director. He most recently served as Chief Executive Officer, Australia at Fletcher Building.

Week beginning October 6

Heidi Sick is starting a new position as Managing Director – Energy ANZ at AECOM.

The Board ​​​​​​of the Carbon Market Institute is pleased to announce it has appointed Dr Sasha Courville as its new Chief Executive Officer. 

AusEV says it has apointed Nick Clift, formerly of MevCo, as director, Mining and Energy Accounts.

Plug Power appoints Joe Luis Crespo as CEO, replacing Andy Marsh.

Week beginning September 29

Tilt Renewables has appointed Philip Bainbridge as the new Independent chairman of the board, following the retirement of longtime Chairman, Cheryl Bart.

The AEMC says it has reappointed Rachele Williams as the Consumer and Distributed Energy Resources representative to the Reliability Panel. 

SwitchDin says it has appointed Emilia A’Bell as its chief revenue officer. A’Bell is relocating from California back to her native Australia to take up the new post.

Consumer energy resources company Brighte says it has appointed ex-Woolies CEO Brad Banducci as Non-Executive Director.

Andrew Barson will be leaving his position as CEO of Gentari‘s Australian business at the end of September.

Pacific Energy says CEO Jamie Cullen is stepping down after 10 years and will be replaced by current COO Michael Hall.

The Smart Energy Council says Andrew Dickson is joining as a South Australia-based special advisor.

Fortescue Zero chief executive Ellie Coates has stepped down due to family reasons.

Joe Fowles says he is taking a new role as a director in Climate and Energy advisory at Deloitte. He has most recently been chief of staff to Wentworth MP Allegra Spender.

The board of the Australian Conservation Foundation (ACF) has appointed former Greens leader Adam Bandt as its next CEO. Bandt will take up the role in January 2026. Kelly O’Shanassy, who has led the organisation for 11 years, will remain CEO until the end of this year.

New South Wales energy minister Penny Sharpe has announced that Nicholas Rowley has been appointed chair of the NSW Net Zero Commission.

OX2 has appointed Matthias Taft as the new CEO, with Paul Stormoen transitioning to board member. Taft previously served as CEO of BayWa.

Ark Energy has appointed Dr Vijay Pradhan as the company’s new chief operating officer. 

Gavin Reymond has been appointed managing director of Acciona Energia in Australia. He was previously head of strategy at Acciona Australia’s infrastructure business, where he directed the division’s energy investment and development.

Week beginning August 25

Anna Freeman, the head of advocacy and investment at the Clean Energy Council, and head of planning, Bronya Lipski, have both announced their departures. 

Week beginning August 18

The Clean Energy Council says it has appointed former Queensland deputy premier Jackie Trad as its new CEO, succeeding Kane Thornton.

Week beginning August 11

AGL has appointed Matthew Currie as Chief Operations and Construction Officer and will lead the Energy Assets business unit. David Moretto has been appointed Chief Commercial Officer, who will lead the Energy Markets and Development business unit. They replace outgoing COO Markus Brokhoff.

AGL says Ryan Warburton has also been appointed Executive General Manager, Strategy, Sustainability and Enterprise Energy Solutions, and will lead its strategy and sustainability teams and our commercial and industrial business.

ClearVue Technologies‘ non-executive chairman and founder Victor Rosenberg will step down as chair, effective immediately, and assume the position of non-executive director. Theresa Smits has agreed to step in as interim board chair. ClearVue CEO Douglas Hunt joins the board as managing director.

Craig Hutchinson has joined Nous Group as a Strategy Principal in the Energy Sector. He was previously with Deloitte.

The Queensland government has appointed Diana Lollato and Peta Tilse as directors for state-owned network company Powerlink; Wendy Agar and James Versace as directors for state-owned utility CS Energy, and; Patrick Brady as a chair of Energy Queensland.

Origin Energy has appointed former Woodside and Fortescue senior executive Fiona Hick and former AGL and Snowy Hydro senior executive Stephen Mikkelsen to its Board as independent Non-executive Directors.

Week beginning August 4

The Smart Energy Council has announced that solar industry veteran Nigel Morris will be joining its team as chief strategy officer. Morris joins the SEC on September 01, after nine years as head of sales and marketing for Solar Analytics and CATCH Power.

After five years as chief executive of Powerlink Queensland, Professor Paul Simshauser has announced his retirement from the role.

Tom Geiser has been appointed chief energy markets officer at Good Heat. He was previously the Australian country head for Rondo Energy.

Paul Locke has moved from the NZEA (where he was director, Major Projects) to DCCEEW, where he will be director Offshore Renewables.

Week beginning July 28

Kieran Andrews has been appointed Engineering Manager at Chargefox.

ClearVue Technologies chief executive officer Douglas Hunt will step up from his interim capacity to lead the company’s global commercialisation strategy for its solar-integrated glass solutions.

James Hunt has been appointed head of energy investment and services at Lumea. He was previously head of power systems and services at Schneider Electric.

John Connor has been appointed head of policy and communications at Net Zero Economic Authority. Connor was former head of Carbon Markets Institute.

Week beginning July 21

The Clean Energy Council board has appointed William Churchill to assume the role of chief policy and impact officer.

Luke Vaughan has moved from Head of Generation, Storage and Electricity Networks at Ampol Australia, to General Manager – Connections at Intium (Essential Energy’s unregulated arm).

Acciona’s Brett Wickham has been appointed interim CEO to the Clean Energy Council.

Nigel Morris has been appointed chair of the Rainbow Power Company. Carly Chapman becomes company secretary.

Week beginning July 14

David McElrea has been appointed to the position of chief advocacy officer at the Smart Energy Council.

Wesley Griffiths has been appointed head of offshore wind logistics provider Cyan’s Melbourne office.

Arron Wood is finishing up a nearly four-year stint with the Clean Energy Council to join Yurringa Energy as its chief executive officer.

Jet Charge says it has appointed Nick McGrath head of technology. McGrath was head of technology at Evergen.

Week beginning July 7

Christiaan Zuur is leaving his position as director of market, grid and investment at the Clean Energy Council and is joining KPMG as a director.

Adriaan van der Merwe has been appointed as a partner in the Hamilton Locke New Energy team. 

AMSL Aero, the developer of the world-leading hydrogen-electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft Vertiia, has appointed Dr Adriano Di Pietro as chief executive officer.

Martin Deil has resigned as the global chief executive officer of solar-integrated building materials company, ClearVue, and executive director Jamie Lyford has stepped down from the board, effective immediately. Douglas Hunt, ClearVue chief operating officer, has been appointed to serve as interim global CEO and Michael Pixley and Theresa Smits have been appointed as board directors.

Alison Reeve has been appointed Program Director at the Grattan Institute‘s energy program. Tony Wood becomes Senior Fellow.

Former Queensland Labor MP and senior public servant Mike Kaiser has been named as the new head of the federal Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (DCCCEEW). Kaiser was sacked by the new Queensland LNP state government last year, and replaces David Fredericks.

Andrew Curtis has been appointed head of Zen Green Iron at Zen Energy.

Alistair McGrath-Kerr has started a new position in the Smart Energy Council as installer and consumer energy engagement manager.

The Australian Energy Market Commission (AEMC) says it has appointed Geoffrey Rutledge as CEO. Rutledge has been deputy Director-General leading the Environment, Water and Emissions Reduction portfolios in the ACT government.

Dominic Adams has been promoted to the role of chief operations officer at Energy Networks Australia. He was previously head of networks.

Week beginning June 30

Peter Cowling has been appointed Head of Wind Australia at Envision Energy.

Alex Leemon has started as Manager, Customer and Energy Markets at new fixed price, zero emissions energy platform PolarBlue.

Snowy Hydro has appointed Maia Schweizer as chief operating officer, replacing Roger Whitby, who steps down after 40 years with the company.

Rainbow Power Company, Australia’s longest-running renewable energy provider, has appointed Matthew Wittemeier as CEO. He replaces Zach Rook, who left in April.

HMC Capital says it has appointed Gerard Dover as head of its energy transition team, replacing Angela Karl who has stepped down.

Cameron O’Reilly has been appointed chair of the NSW Energy Security Corp, and will be joined on the board by directors David Borger, Helen Conway, Michael Cummings, Sharon Eacott, Katerina Kimmorley, and Daniel Papps.

AEMO says it has renamed AEMO Services to AusEnergy Services, and has appointed Nevenka Codevelle as its inaugural Chief Executive Officer.

Week beginning June 23

Andy Evans, chair of OceanEx Energy and film-maker, has been appointed ambassador to the Global Wind Energy Council.

EnergyAustralia has named Daniel Nugent as its new Executive – Trading & Transition.

Zerene Joy Catacutan has joined EnergyCo as communications and media officer after almost three years at the Climate Council.

Spanish energy giant Iberdrola has appointed Pedro Azagra Blazquez, the chief of its US subsidiary Avangrid, as the new group CEO. He replaces Armando Martinez Martinez, who resigned as CEO.

Thomas Schmitz has been appointed Co-Chair, Storage Directorate at Clean Energy Council.

Week beginning June 16

CS Energy has appointed Brian Gillespie as Chief Executive Officer (CEO), effective June 24, 2025. He replaces Andrew Bills, who resigned in February. Gillespie most recently served as Latin America head for explosives and blasting company Orica.

Alex Flores has been promoted to Director of Business Development at NHOA Australia. Adrian Marziano, formerly of Fluence, has been appointed vice president of NHOA Energy.

Kurt Baker has been appointed Synergy’s Chief Executive Officer after a period as acting CEO.

Quinbrook Infrastructure Partners has appointed Brian Restall, currently its Australian Regional Leader, to the newly created role of CEO of Quinbrook by year end. He will assume overall leadership responsibility for the management of all Quinbrook regional teams based in North America, Europe and Australia.

Quinbrook has also appointed Giulia Siccardo as head of North America, succeeding John Lucas, who leaves at the end of the month. Kathryn Lin, a Director in Quinbrook’s North American investment team, has been promoted to Senior Director and leader of Quinbrook’s digital infrastructure strategies.

Kobad Bhavnagri, global head of strategy at BloombergNEF, has been appointed a governor of WWF Australia.

Heaglyff Brunettini has started a new role as Energy Storage Asset Development Specialist at Squadron Energy. He was previously with SMA.

Week beginning June 09

Kelly O’Shanassy has announced she will step down as CEO of the Australian Conservation Foundation at the end of 2025, after more than a decade in the role. ACF’s Board is conducting a national search for its next CEO.

BYD, the global electric vehicle and battery manufacturer, has appointed Stephen Collins as BYD Australia’s chief operating officer, effective immediately.

Cameron Smith is reportedly leaving his role as chief executive of Fortescue Hydrogen Systems after less than two years in the job. Smith remains at Fortescue, but has yet to be given a new position.

Former Under Treasurer and public servant Michael Barnes has been appointed as deputy chair of Western Australia utility Western Power.

Week beginning June 02

Vattenfall has appointed Catrin Jung as the new head of business area (BA) wind, which encompasses the company’s offshore and onshore wind operations, as well as large-scale solar and battery projects.

Andrew Gilhooly has joined TCL Solar to lead its utility power plant entry in Australia and New Zealand.

Horizon Power says Krystal Skinner has officially stepped into the role of acting chief executive officer at the Western Australia utility, bringing more than 17 years’ experience in the energy sector.

Transgrid executive general manager of network Marie Jordan has announced her retirement in December of this year. Transgrid says it will shortly launch a recruitment campaign to appoint her successor.

Week beginning May 26

John Connor has announced his resignation from his role as CEO of the Carbon Markets Institute, after six years in the job.

Climate Change Authority chair Matt Kean announced the birth of Zoe Kean. “They are a constant reminder that this is their world and their future and we need to fight to protect it,” he said.

Week beginning May 19

Mark Hutchinson has resigned as head of Fortescue Energy. Gus Pichot has been appointed Fortescue’s CEO Growth and Energy, effective July 1, responsible for the green energy development and growth projects. Fortescue Metals CEO Dino Otranto will be responsible for global electrification and decarbonisation and production of hydrogen products.

Rio Tinto says Chief Executive Jakob Stausholm will step down from the Group later this year, at the conclusion of a succession process.

OX2 has appointed Paolo Romanacci as its new chief operating officer.

David Fredericks, the secretary of the federal Department of Climate Change, Energy, Efficiency, the Environment and Water (Dccwwe) has announced his retirement.

The Smart Energy Council says its Chief Advocacy Officer Wayne Smith has announced he’ll be departing the peak renewable energy industry group after 13 years of service. 

Behrooz Bahrani, the director of Grid Innovation Hub says he has been promoted to full professor at Monash University.

Week beginning May 12

Ryan Gordon has been appointed Managing Director and Head of APAC at Quinbrook Infrastructure Partners, while Jonathan Borland has been appointed Senior Director for Europe and Nordics.

Geetanjali Gujadhur has rejoined Siemens Energy Australia & New Zealand, this time with the Grid Technology team.

Kylie Zimanyi, formerly ot TotalEnergies, has joined Enervest as head of people and culture.

Evan Beaver has joined BetterFleet as its new infrastructure delivery lead, focusing on EV charging infrastructure.

OX2 has appointed Steve Symons as its new vice president, OX2 Australia. Symons most recently worked at Tilt Renewables, where he served as CFO for eight years, and as interim CEO.

Week beginning May 5

Kane Thornton has announced he will resign as CEO of the Clean Energy Council on August 01, bringing to an end 10 years in the role. The CEC board says it has commenced a national search for a new CEO to lead the organisation into its next phase.

Andy McCarthy, formerly of RACV Solar, says he is putting away the golf clubs, to become chief strategy officer for CEP.Energy.

Week beginning April 28

Sam Crafter, who led the Office of Hydrogen Power SA, has been appointed to a new role of State Lead, Whyalla Steelworks Industrial Transformation, operating within the Department for Energy and Mining. The Office of Hydrogen Power has been dissolved.

Horizon Power says CEO Stephanie Unwin will step down at the end of May after six years in the role. She is joining Arc Infrastructure. Horizon will announce a replacement in due course.

Sun Cable CEO Cameron Garnsworthy says he is stepping down at the end of the week and will work on his new advisory firm Garnsworthy Advisory.

Ampcontrol has announced that its managing director and CEO Rod Henderson will depart the business at the end of June 2025, after more than 25 years with the company. The oard has engaged Derwent Consulting to conduct an internal and external search for a new CEO.

Andrew Gilhooly says he is leaving Trina Solar after five years, most recently as head of business development in the Asia-Pacific.

Erwin Jackson says he is leaving Investor Group on Climate Change (IGCC) after 7 years to take up a role as head of programs at Climateworks Centre.

Leigh Heaney (Government Relations at SEC) and Connor Woulfe (Policy at SEC) have finished at the Smart Energy Council. Heaney is now a Partner (Government and Public Affairs) and Connor Would is Head of Energy at Watson Advisory, a national Government Relations firm who specialise in Renewable Energy. (March 2025)

Swinburne University of Technology has appointed Professor Joy Sumner as the new co-director of the Franco-Australian Centre for Energy Transition (Facet), alongside current co-director Prune Bokobza.

Week beginning April 21

Blueleaf Energy, a pan-Asian renewable energy platform owned by a Macquarie Asset Management managed fund, has announced the appointment of John Warren as country manager for operations in Japan.

Week beginning April 14

Vik Selvaraja has left his role as head of Pacific Renewable Energy at Rio Tinto to go on a 12-month cycling sabbatical in eastern Europe and central and south America. He is succeeded by Denva Poyntz.

Lisa Stiebel has been appointed global head of stakeholder engagement at Neoen, based in Paris. She will continue to lead communications and engagement for Neoen Australia.

CS Energy says its executive general manager of customer and growth Emma Roberts has been appointed as acting CEO, following the resignation of CEO Darren Busine last week. It also says acting arrangements for the Callide Power Station general manager role will be confirmed shortly, following the departure of Mick Hill on Sunday.

Week beginning April 7

Meg McDonald has been named as the interim chair of the Net Zero Commission. McDonald is currently a serving commissioner.

Energy storage solutions provider, Red Earth Energy Storage says it has promoted COO Marc Sheldon to the role of Chief Executive Officer (CEO). He succeeds founder and director Charlie Walker.

ACEREZ, the network operator for the Central-West Orana Renewable Energy Zone (REZ), has appointed Steve Masters as Chief Executive Officer.

Week beginning March 31

Joanna Kay is stepping down from her role as executive general manager at the Smart Energy Council and lead of Zero Carbon Hydrogen Australia.

Alina Dini has joined the Electric Vehicle Council as its new head of energy and infrastructure.

Engie has appointed Shannon Hyde as CEO of Australia and New Zealand. He takes over from Rik De Buyserie who departs Australia to take up the role of country manager for Engie North Africa.  

Also at Engie, Frederik Baerts has started as managing director of generation, while Engie ANZ’s chief development officer for net zero energy solutions, Anna Quillinan, is also leaving the business after nearly six years.

Week beginning March 24

  • Amanda Cahill has stepped down as CEO of The Next Economy but will remain a Board Director. Lizzie Webb, current COO and former Board Chair, has stepped into the CEO role.

Sophie Vorrath is appointed editor of Renew Economy, with Giles Parkinson becoming editor in chief. Sam Parkinson is appointed chief operating officer and Rachel Williamson becomes a full time staff member.

Week beginning March 17

Voyager Renewables, the Australian onshore wind, solar and battery offshoot of Danish giant Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners, has officially opened its head office in Newcastle, New South Wales.

The all-Australian CIP subsidiary announced its “official launch” in November, unveiling a brand new website with a portfolio of three very early-stage projects in Victoria and New South Wales.

Amber-Jade Sanderson is appointed minister for energy, decarbonisation and manufacturing, in Western Australia. Rita Saffioti remains transport minister.

GridBeyond has appointed Chris O’Brien as its Australia managing director.

Mint Renewables has appointed Matthew Glass as its new head of projects.

Perth based Mid West Geothermal Power has re-appointed Mark Ballesteros and Rob Marshall as executive directors.  Both were original founders of the company in 2019.

Jenny Aitchison has been appointed the new minister for roads and regional transport in the New South Wales Minns government.

Week beginning March 10

AEMO has created a new Policy and Corporate Affairs division to be led by Violette Mouchaileh, the former head of Reform Delivery. The new division will enable closer collaboration between strategic market reform and the engagement and communications functions. Nevenka Codevelle, EGM at AEMO Services, has resigned and will finish up at the end of June.

Curtin University has announced Jason McFarlane as the new Western Australian GreenTech Hub director, which will see him take a leading role in the state’s journey towards a more sustainable future.

Prayank Katiyar has taken up a new role as executive general manager – head of energy distribution, at Microgrid Power. Katiyar was previously the head of technical energy solutions at Ventia.

Energy efficiency company Ecovantage has a new CEO with the semi retirement of Bruce Easton after 18 years. Aaron Jenkins, head of commercial services and previosuly founder of an electrical services company steps into the role whilst Bruce moves to Exec Chair focusing on future business opportunities.

Ben Hutt is stepping down from his role at the helm of Evergen and as general manager of behind-the-meter solutions and sales group at Intellhub. Hutt spent six years helping to build Evergen into a global leader in behind the meter DER/CER orchestration and optimisation and transitioning the business into the Intellihub Group.

Maia Schweizer has been appointed chief transformation officer of Snowy Hydro. She is a former senior executive at Fortescue Future Industries, SunDrive and CEO of CleanCo.

Angela Karl has been appointed to the board of the Australian Renewable Energy Agency. Marianna O’Gorman has been re-appointed to the board and will assume the newly created position of Deputy Chair. Stephen McIntosh has also been re-appointed as a board member.

Andrew Lewis has been appointed Acting Chief Executive of the Australian Energy Market Commission. He previously held the position of Executive General Manager of the Consumer, Markets and Analytics.

Nicholas Wodzinski has moved from ChargeFox to be senior product manager, EVs, at Amber Electric.

Nick Aberle has moved on from the Clean Energy Council, where he was policy director and then head of campaigns, strategy and engagement.

Geoff Dutaillis has joined Planum Partners as senior advisor. He is a former CEO of Tilt Renewables.

Jimi Gatland has been appointed director of pro experience at OpenSolar. He previously worked at Next Green.

Matthew Myers will lead AEMO’s Government & Stakeholder Division on an interim basis after the resignation of Rebecca Irwin.

Ampcontrol has appointed Murray Lyster to the role of executive general manager – customer experience and delivery.

Francis Vierboom has been appointed as chief executive officer of Rewiring Australia, after Dan Cass announced his resignation from the role. Cass, who co-founded Rewiring Australia four years ago, is stepping down to focus on new opportunities in policy and research.

Week beginning February 17

Benn Barr has announced that he will finish up as chief executive of the Australian Energy Market Commission on March 17, and “step back from all Commission policy deliberations effective immediately,” ahead of taking on a new role at Energy Queensland. The AEMC will run an internal process for an acting CEO before running an external search process for the new permanent chief.

The Albanese government has appointed James Cain as chair and non-executive director of the Snowy Hydro board, for a three-year term, commencing 1 March 2025. Cain replaces outgoing chair David Knox.

Mark Squires has joined RE-Alliance as community engagement manager, NSW.

Guy Chalkley, head of Endeavour Energy and a former CEO of Western Power, has been named as non executive chairman of Frontier Energy, following the decision of former premier Mark McGowan not to take the job.

Paul Peters, founder and head of advisory company Novo, has been named as interim CEO of the NSW government’s Energy Security Corp.

Louis de Sambucy, the former head of Neoen Australia, has been appointed regional head in Europe.

The Renewable Energy Alliance said it has elected Anna Hancock as its new chair. Hancock is executive director at Pollination.

Dara Memarpouri has been appointed head of grid at Enervest.

Ben Cerini has been appointed Head of Energy Markets at Enervest. He was formerly at Firm Power.

Tim Pratt has been announced as vice president power products, Pacific Zone, at Schneider Electric, overseeing sustainable energy solutions and advancing customer and partner innovation.

AGL Energy‘s chief operating officer, Markus Brokhof, will retire with effect from 15 September 2025. As previously announced, Miles George steps in as chair of the board on Wednesday February 12, replacing Patricia McKenzie.

Dr Genevieve Simpson is starting a new position as General Manager Governance and Delivery, PoweringWA at Energy Policy WA.

Natalie Thompson has finished up at the Electric Vehicle Council where she was chief of staff and senior manager for policy.

Fortescue appointed Noel Quinn as a non executive director to its board.

RayGen has appointed Will Sommers, formerly of Allens and ACCC, as its senior legal counsel.

Terry Stinson has retired as chairman and director of Carnegie Clean Energy. Anthony Shields, currently a non-executive director, will assume the role of non-executive chair.

Synergy says it has appointed Kurt Baker as Acting Chief Executive Officer.

EV network operator ChargeFox says CEO John Sullivan has chosen to step down. He will remain with Chargefox until April 2025, to enable a transition to new leadership. 

Alan Rai has joined Core Markets as head of its advisory team. Rai was previously with Someva Renewables and before that at Baringa.

NHOA Energy announced the “sudden passing” of its Australia head Ashley Mangano. “We are in disbelief,” the company said in a LinkedIn post. “It is a tremendous loss for our company and the industry.”

The Clean Energy Council says it has appointed former 2GB broadcaster Chris O’Keefe as its national spokesperson.

The Electric Vehicle Council has appointed Julie Delvecchio as its new chief executive officer.  She replaced inaugural CEO, Behyad Jafari, and the interim CEO, Samantha Johnson.

Global oil giant Shell says it has appointed Machteld de Haan as its new head of its renewable energy operations. He will replace Huibert Vigeveno who leaves at the end of March.

Week beginning January 20

Jonathan Cole is leaving his role as CEO of offshore wind developer Corio Generation, the Macquarie-backed company announced this week. Cole will, from January 31, be replaced as CEO by Samuel Leopold, who has been chair of Corio since it was launched in 2022.

The SunCable board of directors has appointed Ryan Willemsen-Bell as group CEO. Willemsen-Bell joins SunCable from Origin Energy where he has spent the last 16 years working in senior roles, most recently as general manager of future fuels and carbon.

Australian electrolyser company Hysata has appointed Monique Conheady to its board of directors.

Week beginning January 13

Danish wind giant Vestas has named Jakob Wegge-Larsen as its new chief financial officer. Wegge-Larsen is expected to take up the CFO role in the second quarter after moving from logistics group DB Schenker.

Clean Energy Investor Group has appointed Allison Hawke as a new board director. Hawke is general manager of development at Atmos Renewables.

Shane Quinnell has joined WestWind Energy Australia as its new head of development for New South Wales and Queensland.

OpenSolar has shifted Maaike Gobel to the role of general manager – Asia. Sophie Wright has taken up the role as general manager – Australia and New Zealand.

Week beginning December 16

Ross De Rango says he is stepping down from his position as Head of Energy and Infrastructure at the Electric Vehicle Council to focus on a new business venture.

Shell‘s head of renewables in the Americas Amanda Dasch will leave the company to join Danish offshore wind giant Ørsted in January as head of its US operations.

Week beginning December 09

Kayne Munro has been appointed Applications Specialist – BESS at Pacific Energy, a market leader in the provision of sustainable distributed energy. He previously was the Project Delivery Lead – ESS at SolarEdge Energy Storage.

Hydro Tasmania has announced that Rachel Watson will take up the role of chief executive officer of the state government-owned utility on April 14, 2025. Watson is currently country manager for global renewable developer OX2 and was formerly CEO of Pacific Hydro and chair of the Clean Energy Council.

Week beginning December 02

Hans Martin Smith has decided to step down as Chief Financial Officer of Vestas by the end of 2024, a role he has held since 1 March 2022. Until a successor has been found, CFO responsibilities will be handled by Senior Vice President and Head of Group Financial Performance, Rasmus Gram.

Energy Network Australia (ENA) has welcomed two utility CEOs to its board at its Annual General Meeting. SA Power Networks CEO, Andrew Bills, and AusNet CEO, David Smales, were appointed to the Board in November 2024.
