Australian energy expert appointed Professorial Fellow at Monash University

Monash University is delighted to announce that Ms Chloe Munro AO has accepted the role of Professorial Fellow at Monash University.

Ms Munro has had a distinguished career in both the public and private sectors with particular expertise in infrastructure, energy and natural resources.

Ms Munro will commence her appointment immediately and will work across the Monash Business School, Faculty of Law, Monash Energy Materials and Systems Institute (MEMSI) and the Monash Sustainable Development Institute (MSDI) to advance energy policy research, natural resources policy and to link research to the needs of industry and government.

A leader in energy policy and regulation, Ms Munro is actively engaged with the energy and financial services industries through a number of board positions. She is also the independent Chair of the Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO) expert advisory panel. She was previously Chair of the Clean Energy Regulator and a panel member of the Independent Review into the Future Security of the National Electricity Market (Finkel Review).

Ms Munro’s role will directly draw on her extensive experience in the complex landscape of the energy sector and will further advance the university’s interdisciplinary approach to energy research. Ms Munro also has extensive water and resources experience having been Chair of the National Water Commission and Secretary of the Victorian Department of Natural Resources and Environment.

Ms Munro said she was honoured to be given the opportunity to help strengthen relationships between the university, government and industry.

Biography – Ms Chloe Munro AO

Chloe Munro AO is Chair of the Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO) expert advisory panel and Chair of the IIG Solar Income Fund and IIG Solar Assets Fund. She is an independent director of NPP Australia Ltd, the former Chair of the Clean Energy Regulator and a panel member of the Independent Review into the Future Security of the National Electricity Market (Finkel Review).

Ms Munro was previously Chair of the National Water Commission, Chair of AquaSure – the consortium building Victoria’s desalination plant, and a non-executive director of Hydro Tasmania.

She is a former executive director of Telstra where she held leadership positions in human resources, business operations, information technology, public policy and communications and customer service. She served in the Victorian public sector from 1996 to 2004 in the positions of Secretary of the Department of Primary Industries, Secretary of the Department of Natural Resources and Deputy Secretary in Treasury.

In 2017 Ms Munro was recognised by the Clean Energy Council for her outstanding contribution to the energy industry, and in 2018, was made an Officer of the Order of Australia in recognition of her service in the areas of renewable energy, water, climate change and the performing arts.
