About RenewEconomy

There seems little doubt that the Australian economy – indeed the world’s – is about to go through one of the most dramatic transformations since the industrial revolution.

Like the first, the next industrial revolution will be led by changes in technology, driven by the need to act on climate change, energy security and resource scarcity. Much of the way the world does business – particularly in the multi-trillion dollar energy and transport sectors, but also in many other sectors – will change profoundly in the decades to come.

How this unfolds, and at what cost or benefit, is impossible to forecast. But it’s going to be fascinating to watch.

That’s the goal of this website – to discuss the ideas, analyse the trends, the new technologies and the policies that will drive this transformation.

RenewEconomy is an independent website founded by Giles Parkinson, a journalist of 30 years experience, a former Business Editor and Deputy Editor of the Financial Review, a columnist for The Bulletin magazine and The Australian, and former editor of Climate Spectator.

Also contributing regularly to the website is Paul Gilding, an independent writer and corporate advisor on climate change and sustainability, and recognized as a global authority and thought leader on sustainability and business. He is the author of “The Great Disruption” published in 2011 to wide acclaim.

RenewEconomy will be updated daily and will produce a free daily newsletter, so please sign up to receive that information into your inbox. We anticipate that the editorial team will grow in coming months.

The site will operate on an advertising revenue model, so please don’t be shy!

Contributed articles are also invited. The web-site will be open for comments from readers, but they will initially be pre-vetted. We’re going to going to try and ensure that comments are on topic: we would like a conversation; no shouting, no abuse.

We hope you find RenewEconomy to be useful, informative and enjoyable. We’d love your feedback.

Its great to have Giles back in business after Climate Spectator.

This is just what Australian needs, if we are to live up to our renewable energy potential and do our bit for climate action.

    Good luck!

I have been missing my daily dose of Giles on Climate Spectator, so am very pleased to see you back online doing what you do so well.

Best wishes for a successful business venture, and for making a genuine contribution to the economic transition that is slowly gathering pace.

Great work with RenewEconomy. Pleased to see another online publication. Happy to share thoughts, contacts and news/features with you from my abc carbon express. Still going strong four years. Keep up the good work.
    Cheers

Fantastic! And thanks to Mathew Wright for pointing me at your new website. It’s very exciting to find that the two writers, whose opinions I most respect on the crises converging on us, will be contributing to this newsletter blog.
