PRESS RELEASE
Solarig, a global company specializing in renewable energy solutions, has reached 2 GW in Operation and Maintenance (O&M) in Australia following the commencement of operations at Stubbo Solar project (400 MW / 520 MWp), one of the country’s most significant photovoltaic assets with an estimated investment of AU$ 760 million. This milestone reinforces Solarig’s international leadership in O&M services — where it already ranks as the fourth-largest operator worldwide — and consolidates its position as a leading energy partner in Australia, a market where it has operated for the past eight years.
Located in the Central West-Orana region of New South Wales, the Stubbo Solar project will generate around 1,000 GWh of clean energy per year, equivalent to the electricity consumption of 185,000 Australian households. The project, owned by ACEN Australia and built by PCL Construction, will also incorporate a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) with a 200 MWh capacity in the future. Stubbo Solar is a strategic asset for the country’s energy transition, and its future storage system will be essential in providing stability and resilience to the Australian energy mix — one of the world’s electricity grids with the highest renewable penetration.
In addition, Stubbo has become the first large-scale solar project in Australia certified for full circularity under the Circular PV Alliance (CPVA) framework. This certification ensures that all 930,000 photovoltaic panels used in the facility will be reused or recycled at the end of their operational life, setting a precedent for responsible lifecycle management and advancing Australia’s broader commitment to the circular economy.
Leading Renewable Asset Management in Australia
With now 2 GW under management, Solarig Australia reaffirms its leadership as the country’s largest O&M operator by installed capacity, consolidating its strategic role in operating large-scale renewable energy assets. The company currently operates and maintains facilities across five states — South Australia, Western Australia, New South Wales, Victoria, and Queensland. In addition to Stubbo Solar, Solarig manages other benchmark projects such as Bungala Solar Farm (275 MWp) and Darlington Point (333 MWp), which are among the largest solar farms in the country. Altogether, the assets under Solarig’s management deliver emission-free electricity equivalent to the consumption of around 700,000 Australian homes.
This leadership in solar operations has been strengthened by Solarig’s expansion into wind services, high-voltage services, and energy storage solutions. With a BESS portfolio that now exceeds 4.2 GWh globally, Solarig is well-positioned to achieve a strong global position in the management of these assets. This will be one of the main drivers of Solarig’s portfolio growth, which now reaches 15 GW.
Mariano Martínez Larcuen, Country Manager of Solarig in Australia, stated:
“The launch of operations at the Stubbo Solar project and our achievement of 2 GW under O&M in Australia marks a major milestone that strengthens our leadership in one of the world’s most dynamic renewable energy markets. Australia is leading the global transition to large-scale battery energy storage deployment, highlighted by the approval of one of the world’s largest storage tenders. Solarig is fully prepared to contribute with its 20 years of experience in Energy Services to ensure the highest efficiency and reliability of these assets.”
Solarig at the Forefront of BESS O&M
Solarig’s leadership in the operation and maintenance of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) is based on a 4.2 GWh fleet and strategic partnerships with leading BESS technology providers. The company has developed a comprehensive asset management and supervision model that optimizes performance, safety, and plant availability.
Australia represents one of the world’s most dynamic and fast-growing energy storage markets. The recent approval of the third Capacity Investment Scheme (CIS) tender confirms this trend, adding 16 BESS projects with a combined capacity of 4.13 GW and 15.37 GWh — enough to meet the peak demand of 3.5 million homes for four hours. This marks the largest battery storage tender ever launched in the country, a decisive step towards a more flexible and resilient electricity system in which BESS technology will play a central role.
In this context, Solarig holds a privileged position to support the sector’s expansion thanks to its local National Engineering Register (NER) compliant Control Center, one of the most advanced and experienced in Australia. Designed to meet the highest local regulatory and operational standards, the Control Center monitors and manages photovoltaic and storage assets in real time, integrating advanced analytics and artificial intelligence. Its digital infrastructure and 24/7 operations network enable the delivery of high-reliability energy services, optimizing technical and financial performance and reinforcing Solarig’s position as a global technological partner of choice.
