The largest solar farm in Australia, Nyngan in the west of New South Wales, effectively doubled its size on Friday when the second 25MW block of the 102MW solar farm was connected to the grid.
The effect was immediate, as these graphs from Global Roam’s NEM-Watch show. Nyngan doubled its output almost immediately. This, and the belated inclusion in AEMO data of the 20MW Royalla solar farm in the ACT – opened six months ago – pushed total generation from large scale solar to 65MW on Sunday morning.
The last module was connected to the solar farm on Friday and the remaining blocks will feed into the grid in June or July. This will be followed by the 53MW Broken Hill solar farm later this year.
