First Nations owned solar to deliver clean energy for Victorian Government

PRESS RELEASE

Community energy company, Indigo Power will today announce a new milestone for community renewable energy – a First Nations owned solar power system that will deliver clean energy to the Victorian Government and sustainable financial returns for the Taungurung Land and Waters Council.
This flagship project brings together government, community, and First Nations people to deliver clean energy to the DELWP Broadford office on Taungurung country.
The 17KW, 50 solar panel project, will be delivered by local community owned energy company Indigo Power, with investment from the TLWC,  providing locally generated clean energy and cost savings.
Indigo Power is a community owned energy company, and certified social enterprise, based in North East Victoria focused on delivering renewable energy outcomes in a way that benefits and empowers local communities. In April Indigo Power launched the region’s first community owned solar project in Beechworth.
Indigo Power Managing Director, Ben McGowan, said the benefits of community solar spill over to the whole community.
“We are so pleased to announce our partnership with the Taungurung Land and Waters Council at the start of NAIDOC week. The renewable energy sector can deliver real community benefit, and this project clearly demonstrates that.
“This project will power the DELWP Broadford office with locally generated clean energy, at the same time providing an ongoing financial return to the TLWC.
“It demonstrates the opportunities that renewable energy and new energy models have for communities. It is another sign that North East Victoria is a community renewable energy powerhouse.
“Indigo Power is a certified social enterprise. We’re committed to projects that deliver renewable energy outcomes, while ensuring the benefits are kept right here in regional Victoria.
“The Department of Environment Land Water and Planning have shown clear leadership in purchasing Taungurung owned clean energy, and making this project a reality.”
Indigo Power will be launching a retail offering later in the year. You can express interest at www.indigopower.com.au.
