Energy Insiders Podcast: Origin’s Greg Jarvis on why renewables are cheaper than coal

Energy Insiders podcast

Origin Energy’s head of energy trading and operations Greg Jarvis joins Energy Insiders podcast to discuss the company’s plans to exit coal in 15 years and its new focus on storage.

Origin is installing its first grid-scale battery at the Mt Stuart peaking plant, and is also looking at upgrading the Shoalhave pumped hydro installation.

Jarvis says it is clear that wind and solar are cheaper than the marginal cost of coal generation, and explains why Origin moved beyond “base-load” a while ago.

And yes, David Leitch is back, and shares his views on recent events such as the Coalition’s energy policy, the new 350MW solar farm planned for NSW, and problems at wave energy developer Carnegie.

Don’t forgot to catch up with the Energy Insiders and Solar Insiders team at the All Energy conference, with a special “live” recording at lunchtime on Wednesday (Day 1).
