Be part of the climate change solution— ACT Climate Change Council seeks new members

PRESS RELEASE

“The ACT Climate Change Council advises the Government on the ACT’s ambitious program to make the Territory resilient to the effects of climate change and to reduce our emissions to net zero by 2045,” Minister Rattenbury said today.

“I’m seeking applications from people with insights into what we can do to address or adapt to climate change and help maintain the ACT’s position as a world-leader in climate policy.

“Ideally, members will be from across the ACT community, business and industry as it’s important we all work together to find solutions.

“The committee would benefit from representation from sectors that are already—or will be—impacted by climate change, such as environmental managers and construction, or sectors that contribute to climate change, such as transport and construction, and sectors with an interest in climate change science, such as academics and students.

“We are particularly keen to have members who have experience implementing action that centres on zero emissions, be it climate wise building design and construction or zero emissions transport, and have strong social analysis skills,” Mr Rattenbury said.

It follows extensive consultation with the Canberra community, which has shaped the new climate policy (2019 – 2025 Action Plan).

The Council has up to nine members and includes people with a broad range of skills and knowledge relating to addressing or adapting to climate change.

Applicants should represent one or more of the following categories: business; people who are socially or financially disadvantaged; climate change science; environmental management; building sector; social analysis; transport sector; and energy efficiency and renewable energy.
