Beginning of the end for fossil fuels? Panic sweeps global markets
Financial markets are finally catching up to the news: Fossil fuels are in decline in both transport and electricity, and the woes of VW and Glencore. Even the Bank of England has sounded a warning. Meanwhile, the likes of BHP, Origin and AGL are trying to convince investors that everything is OK.

Is utility-scale solar finally about to take off in Australia?
Australia should have longed been a leader in utility scale solar, but has been blocked by the fossil fuel industry and poor policy. Now there are signs that large scale solar is about to take off – both at the “mega” project level and in smaller, localised projects.

AGL says 9GW of baseload fossil fuels no longer needed
AGL Energy says that 9,000MW of fossil fuel baseload capacity needs to be removed from Australia’s electricity market, because too much has been built and the economics are being undermined by rooftop solar and other factors. The question is how this is done. AGL also accuses rival utilities of shaping their arguments against renewables to protect their own investments.
