New energy trading platform released. No more power bills!

PRESS RELEASE

Australia’s battery revolution receives an added boost with a 25-cent solar feed-in tariff, combined with a world first energy trading platform.  Power bills will be a thing of the past, and homeowners will now open energy trading accounts.

Discover Energy is an Australian-owned and operated energy retailer with a focus on renewable energy, and a world leader in energy trading and Virtual Power Plant software.

Our aim is to accelerate the roll out of battery systems with the introduction of energy trading and 25-cent feed-in tariffs. The return on investment for a solar and battery system is significantly reduced making the investment in home batteries more appealing A feed-in tariff is the amount of money earned from energy exported back into the grid from a rooftop solar system, which is credited onto the customer’s power bill. Energy trading is selling stored energy into the grid at times of higher spot prices.

Energy trading and Virtual Power Plants require batteries as the primary source of energy exchange.  The largest obstacle in the roll out of batteries is capital upfront cost.  Traditionally, the return on investment for batteries has been over 10 years.  By increasing feed-in tariffs to 25-cents per kWh, Discover Energy’s offer will help reduce the return on investment by approximately 2 years, depending on the market variable spot prices.

During times of peak demand when the spot price is high, Discover Energy can release battery energy to the grid at a premium return. Alternatively, the homeowner can instruct the battery to discharge and control the times and amounts to credit their accounts.

Energy trading is expected to launch from January 2020.

“We are proud that the Virtual Power Plant software we have developed is a world first. Discover Energy has pursued an Innovation Patent with respect to the invention.

We have the ability to trade energy using a hybrid solar inverter without the need for any additional hardware. Power bills are now a thing of the past, you will now have an energy trading account!” said Ian Gittus, the Strategic Development Manager of Discover Energy.
