Infiniti, the luxury vehicle division of Japanese automaker Nissan, has revealed a teaser sketch of their latest concept car – an eye-catching, sleek electric single-seat speedster that will be known as ‘Prototype 10’.
The open-cockpit, single-seater EV will debut at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, and it follows Infiniti’s unveiling of the Prototype 9 at last year’s charity event.
The company say that they’ve ‘re-imagined the classic speedster with a cool, clean and forward-looking design’ – and to our eyes, the striking design has something of the Batmobile in 1989’s Batman Returns fame.
The image, a futuristic rendition that does away with prominent traditional features in preference to a completely streamlined appearance, takes its cues from the INFINITI Q Inspiration, the company says.
As executive design director Karim Habib explains, “The INFINITI Prototype 10 echoes the layout and design of some of the most evocative car designs of all time, where power was celebrated through high-powered single-seat competition cars.”
Our new concept speaks of an electrified future, something which is reflected in its form and details. It is appropriate that we found inspiration in an optimistic bygone era in which cars were characterized by the simple love of driving.”
Not much else is being given away by INFINITI in the lead up to the official unveiling on August 23rd next week at Pebble Beach.
There is no mention of what the specs are of the all-electric powertrain – those details will have to wait until the Prototype 10’s debut.
The luxury car company has also revealed they are committing to electrifying their entire stable of vehicles by 2021.
Last year’s Prototype 9 was also an electric retro roadster concept, the design of which harked back to 1940s race cars.
