Energy Insiders Podcast: Behind Northern Territory’s 10GW solar plans

Eytan Lenko, chair of Beyond Zero Emissions, explains why governments, suppliers, developers, and financiers are getting behind proposals for the world’s biggest solar project in the Northern Territory.

The plans were outlined by BZE last month, urging the state to deal with the stop-start nature of the fossil-fuel economy with a plan to not just decarbonise, but build 10GW of solar to establish new industries in the Top End, and to provide power to Asian neighbours.

The proposal has captured the interest of Sun Cable and the investment arm of one of Australia’s richest men, Mike Cannon-Brookes. Lenko explains how the report came about, how the government and even the Murdoch media came to embrace it, and the next move.

Plus, we wrap up the week’s news in energy.
