China’s Trina Storage increased its global energy storage product offering this week, through the unveiling of its latest integrated BESS unit.

Details of the new unit, dubbed the Elementa 2 Pro, were revealed at this year’s Energy Storage Summit held in Sydney on March 18 and 19.

The company says the new 5MWh unit has been designed to not only withstand Australia’s “complex maritime climate,” but also adhere to the country’s “stringent” safety and noise regulations.

The unit will use proprietary 314Ah lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery cells developed by Trina, which it claims can support up to 15,000 discharge cycles. In order to maintain internal temperatures, the unit will also include a hybrid liquid-air cooling system, operating at a noise level as low as 70dB.

As with almost all recent BESS product launches, and in light of enhanced public scrutiny following recent high-profile battery fires, Trina was keen to highlight the unit’s fire safety credentials.

According to Trina, the Elementa 2 Pro will feature “advanced” fire mitigation and suppression systems, coupled with a “sandwich cabin structure”, offering up to two hours of fire protection.

Head of Trina’s energy storage division, Leo Zhao, hailed the new unit’s unveiling as “setting a new benchmark for large-scale battery energy storage solutions in Australia” that would redefine long-term value for developers.

Established in 2021, Trina Storage is a business subsidiary of China PV giant Trina Solar dedicated solely to BESS integration. The company’s initial offering, known as the Elementa, was first unveiled in 2022 and formally introduced the world to its proprietary LFP technology.

Since this inaugural offering, the company has expanded into several key markets for energy storage, including Australia, North America and Europe.

During October 2023, the company made its first mark in Australia, through the unveiling of its next generation integrated BESS unit, the Elementa 2, at the All-Energy Australia event held in Melbourne.

According to Trina, its newest offering, the Elementa 2 Pro, offers developers “even greater efficiency, flexibility, and safety” in comparison to its previous generation Elementa model.

Since its inception, Trina states it has deployed 4GWh worth of BESS capacity worldwide and claims to have 10GWh worth of battery units lined up for future projects.

Trina also made headlines last month after UK-based developer Pacific Green Energy announced it had secured a supply agreement covering 250MW/500MWh of BESS capacity.

Pacific Green noted this week that Trina batteries will be used at its Limestone North project, forming part of the developer’s wider Limestone Coast Energy Park, located approximately 10km outside of Mount Gambier in South Australia.

Pacific Green recently reached financial close and completed the sale of the Limestone North portion to Intera Renewables – a portfolio company of Palisade Investment Partners.

Initial terms of the deal, estimated to be worth around A$460 (US$293 million), were first announced by Pacific Green on February 24th 2025. The sale was completed on Thursday this week.

Pacific Green will continue to be involved with the project, acting as construction manager, directing Trina alongside the balance of plant contractor Gransolar.

The developers are aiming to bring the project online during the first part of 2027.
