Is this the beginning of the end of coal-fired generation?
The government owned Stanwell Corp has put 700MW of coal-fired generation on ice because of falling demand, and the impact of renewables and the carbon price. Its annual report reveals that its entire portfolio of 4GW of coal and gas fired power plants may be surplus to requirements.

100% renewables in Australia will be cheaper than BAU
A UNSW project to assess the feasibility of a 100% renewable energy network for Australia is turning up some ‘very promising’ economic results – when you factor in the cost of ageing fossil power plants, it’s likely to be cheaper than continuing on the current path. Now, to get the policy right.
