Wind generation hits peak output of more than 4,000MW in Australia

Published by

Wind generation in Australia has reached a new milestone, with the combined output of the country’s large-scale wind farms reaching a record peak of 4,050MW in mid February.

The milestone was identified by Paul McArdle, from Global Roam and the providers of our popular NEM-Watch widget.

He noted that according to his data, the combined output of wind reached 3,900MW at 4.45am on Monday (NEM time, which is also Queensland time). He wondered if that was a record

Turns out it wasn’t. The record was actually set on Tuesday, February 12, when peak output peaked at a record 4,050MW, at 6.15pm (NEM time).

And this is another graph showing the gradual rise in peak output, helped along by the connection and completion of new wind farm projects, and the comparison with their average output.
