Norton Rose Fulbright to add another corporate, energy and resources partner in Brisbane

PRESS RELEASE

Global law firm Norton Rose Fulbright announced today that experienced energy and resources partner Gavin Scott will join the Brisbane office.
Previously a partner at Ashurst, Mr Scott has a corporate advisory practice with a front-end energy and resources focus.
He brings over 20 years’ experience of developing natural resources projects in Australia, PNG and Indonesia.  He has been involved in many of Australia’s key hard rock and gas projects, including in Queensland’s CSG to LNG industry from its inception.
He has also advised on the development of major gas pipelines, linear infrastructure, solar and wind farms, as well as agribusiness and residential development projects.
Mr Scott advises many of Australia’s largest energy, resources and infrastructure companies on strategies to obtain and maintain project approvals, and is well known for developing innovative solutions to facilitate land access for resources projects, including managing native title and cultural heritage issues. He will start on January 29.
The appointment is the first of a number of new partners being attracted to the firm following our combination with leading independent law firm Henry Davis York on December 1 last year.
It also follows other recent partner appointments to the national corporate and M&A team, including:
·         the relocation this month from our Singapore office to Sydney of Asia-Pacific head of energy and former Australian firm’s corporate practice head Vincent Dwyer;
·         the appointment since June of Martin Irwin (Sydney), Adam Edelman (Perth), Jasmine Sprange (Sydney), Shamim Razavi (now in Sydney from our Indonesian associate firm, TNB & Partners) and Natalie Lonergan (Sydney);
·         the promotion to the partnership of Chris Mitchell in Melbourne on December 1, and Raymond Lou in Sydney on July 1, last year.
Norton Rose Fulbright managing partner in Australia Wayne Spanner commented:
“Our larger and more diverse firm has started 2018 strongly, and a big part of that progress has been the continual broadening and renewal of our national corporate and M&A team, as well as expanding our industry expertise in energy and resources.

“We welcome Gavin to the team, who will bring with him substantial experience advising large energy, resources and infrastructure companies on major issues concerning the growth of their businesses.
He has a deep understanding of the legal risks that our clients face in developing, running and financing large projects as well as how social impacts can be managed in a sustainable way.”
Mr Scott commented:
“I am extremely excited and honoured to be commencing at Norton Rose Fulbright.  The firm is at the forefront of the current renewables boom in the Asia Pacific region, as well as having long standing relationships with traditional resources clients, which fits perfectly with my specialist advisory practice.
I am looking forward to working within Norton Rose Fulbright’s global network focussing on natural resources projects.
“I am also passionate about how law firms deal with important issues of reconciliation and inclusion, and am very impressed with the manner in which these issues are embraced by the firm.”
Other lateral partners to join the firm include the recent addition of high-quality litigator Ann Donohue and construction and engineering specialist Phillipa Beck (joining February 2018).
The firm also promoted Vittorio Casamento, Alice Chen, Belinda Harvey, James Higby, Stephen Iu, Anneliese Korber and Daniel Vicano to the partnership on December 1.
