Generation has begun at the first of the biggest wind turbines to be installed in Australia, at what will be the biggest wind project in the state of New South Wales.
Tilt Renewables announced via a LinkedIn post on the weekend that the first turbine at the 396MW Rye Park wind farm had begun generating as the project enters what can often be a lengthy commissioning phase.
The 6MW V162 Vestas turbines installed at Rye Park, north of Yass, are the most powerful so far in Australia, and have a tip has a tip height of 200 metres.
There will be a total of 66 such machines at the project, and according to the most recent construction update, 26 turbines have been erected. All the concrete foundations have been poured.
Tilt says the energy being produced at Rye Park “is already being put to good use supporting Newcrest Mining’s operations in NSW.
