Energy Insiders Podcast: Lily D’Ambrosio and the big solar deal

Victoria energy minister Lily D’Ambrosio joins the Energy insiders podcast to talk about the state’s big rooftop solar initiative, which will see 2,6GW of rooftop solar installed at no upfront cost on 360,000 homes.

D’Ambrosio says this is about reversing the impacts of privatisation and taking on the big energy utilities. There is also an election afoot.

Meanwhile, amid the chaos of the NEG, and – as we predicted last week the emergence of Peter Dutton as a likely alternative PM, David Leitch accuses Rod Sims of stepping over the line, and wonders what he knows about the electricity market – both in terms of regulating prices and insisting on the need for new dispatchable generation.

And we also look at why the proposed price caps on electricity could rebound on many consumers and cause their bills to rise. It is likely to be bad for competition.

And there are a heap of new solar developments to talk about, including Sanjeev Gupta’s new solar farm in South Australia, the opening of the Sun Metals solar farm, and approval for a big solar farm in the heart of Barnaby Joyce’s electorate.
