Energy Insiders Podcast: Australia should be world leader in “base-cost” renewables

BloombergNEF founder Michael Liebreich joins Energy Insiders to discuss the horror of waking up to a Sydney shrouded in smoke, the shameful indifference of Australia’s government, and the huge opportunities for Australia in leading the world in “base-cost” renewables.

In this fascinating interview, Liebreich discusses Australia’s huge opportunity and wonders why it is not already leading the world. It may be in rooftop solar, but in overall system change Liebriech says it is the UK that (accidentally) finds itself out front. His explanation of “base-cost” renewables, and how modern cheap and clean energy systems can be designed around wind and solar is also worth listening to.

Liebreich also says Australia is the “stupidest” place in the world to think about building nuclear, because of its abundant resources in wind and solar.

And we also wrap up COAG, the hydrogen strategy and the new energy plan from NSW.
