Australian wave energy developer, Carnegie Energy, said it has received its first payment from ARENA as part of an $11 million government grant for the CETO 6 Project.
Carnegie has received $50,000 payment for the first milestone of the CETO 6 Project, the completion of a Knowledge Sharing Plan and detailed Project Plan.
The plan details Carnegie’s ongoing commitment to use the project to advance the wave energy industry globally through collaborations with industry and university partners, sharing key lessons learned with interested stakeholders and making certain data available to key stakeholders.
The CETO 6 Project comprises the design, construction, deployment and demonstration of three units in a grid-connected, up to 3MW peak installed capacity wave energy project at Garden Island, Western Australia.
The CETO 6 Project is supported by a $11m grant in Australian Government funding through the Australian Renewable Energy Agency’s Emerging Renewables Program and by a five year $20 million loan facility from the Australian Clean Energy Finance Corporation.
The CETO system point of difference is its operation, under water, where it is safer from large storms and invisible from the shore. The technology is capable of generating power onshore or offshore depending upon the specific characteristics of a project site.
The technology also boasts converting ocean wave energy into zero-emission electricity and desalinated water.
According to Carnegie, the renewable energy generated by the project will be sold to the Australian Department of Defence at Australia’s largest naval base, HMAS Stirling, on Garden Island in Western Australia.
