Bluglass enters another partnership after raising $3 million

Australian semi-conductor start-up BluGlass has signed another major partnership with a leading industrial group after raising another $3 million to try and bring its ground-breaking LED technology to market.

The Sydney-based BluGlass said on Tuesday it will commence a collaboration with HC SemiTek, a leading Chinese LED chip manufacturer that supplies full-color ultra-high brightness LED products throughout the Chinese market.

HC SemiTek wants to look at how the BluGlass technology – known as Remote Plasma Chemical Vapour Deposition, or RPCVD – can help in the production of green LEDs and in high brightness LEDs.

The Chinese manufacturer will supply 4 inch wafers to BluGlass to deposit RPCVD films and HC SemiTek will then fabricate the LED devices for testing.

The agreement follows a collaboration agreement with LumiLeds, a subsidiary of Philipps Lighting, and an “evaluation project” with Veeco as the major industrial groups look at how they can incorporate BluGlass’ low temperature technology to improve efficiency and reduce costs in the growing LED market.
