Entries have opened for the 2016 round of Australia’s premier technology competition, a search for the country’s best new technologies for enhancing industry competitiveness and efficiency.
Now in its sixth year, the Australian Technologies Competition identifies, awards and mentors Australia’s leading technologies who are best positioned to become global success stories.
Over the last five years, it has attracted more than 700 entries, mentored 125 SMEs and generated over $250 million dollars in investment and project opportunities.
Precious clean tech winners have included BluGlass, Enlighten Australia and SMAC Technologies.
The 2016 Competition features new awards categories and a wider reach, and is collaborating with the federal government’s Industry Growth Centres to focus on priority sectors.
The reach of eligible technologies has been expanded to include medtech, biotech and cyber security, while retaining its links to environmental technology through the, Smart Cities, New Energy and Global Development Awards.
The Top 30 companies of the 2016 contest will win entry to an intensive Business Accelerator Program which provides access to experts and connections to investors, customers, specialist advisors, grant programs and international markets.
They will also be recognised at Showcase events in Melbourne as part of the All Energy conference on October 5 and in Sydney as part of Startup Sydney week in early November. Both events will feature a unique investor speed-dating event to help fund company growth.
“The guidance on commercialisation, funding and pitching, combined with connections across industry, finance and international markets has enabled many of our Alumni companies to make a step change in their business,” said John O’Brien, the competition founder and organiser.
