Bunnings launches zero up-front home batteries and solar
Bunnings is shaking up Australia’s rooftop solar and home battery market with the launch of Zelora, a zero up-front cost offer designed to make home electrification more accessible.
The move comes just weeks after the federal government kicked off its national battery rebate scheme, fuelling a boom in home battery installations that now outpace rooftop solar retrofits.
Bunnings is targeting the two-thirds of Australian households that still haven’t installed solar, as it expands deeper into the clean energy market following its recent foray into EV charging equipment.
To deliver Zelora, Bunnings has partnered with software firm Intellihub, tapping its smart meter expertise and nationwide installer network, and integrating tech from battery maker SigEnergy and solar supplier Das Solar.
The Zelora system will include a user-friendly app that tracks savings, alerts users to faults, and offers features like EV charging and pool pump controls.
“Many customers find home electrification complex and may not be aware of the benefits it can offer.”
Ryan Baker, Bunnings COO
“Zelora has been developed to simplify the home battery and solar opportunity for customers in a cost-effective way.”
The product will first roll out across Newcastle and greater Sydney before a national launch, offering bundled solar and battery systems at various price points.
Backed by parent company Wesfarmers and $100 million in low-cost finance from the Clean Energy Finance Corporation, Bunnings is positioning itself as a major new player in Australia’s home energy transition.
