Vmoto targets China market with six new electric scooter models

Vmoto Ltd, an Australia scooter and All Terrain Vehicle (ATV) manufacturer, has announced the official opening of its second Chinese retail store in Jurong City.

After nine months of testing, Vmoto has launched six new models to its fleet of electric two-wheel scooters in China – developed specifically for the Chinese market.

Due to the large success of the electric scooters in China the company has recently looked into expanding its retail operations in locations such as Shanghai, Hainan Province and Quanzhou.

Charles Chen, Vmoto’s Managing Director, spoke of the benefits of being in the Chinese scooter market, “The opening of Vmoto’s second retail store in China is another step towards Vmoto gaining a stronger foothold in China … which is the largest electric two wheel vehicle market in the world. We are excited about the opportunities in the Chinese market and plan to continue expanding our presence in China”.

In the past 10 years China has been the largest electric two-wheel vehicle market in the world, with 30 million units of electric two-wheel vehicles produced in China in 2012. In many Chinese cities, the Government has started to ban two-wheel vehicles with combustion engines due to air and noise pollution.

Variations on bans, such as area restrictions for combustion scooters, have been introduced in around 90 cities across China. The company has also recently provided two trial electric cleaning vehicles to the Jianye District Government in Nanjing to prepare for the upcoming 2014 Youth Olympic Games in August.

The Nanjing Government has taken on various programs to develop, upgrade and improve the environment of the city for the upcoming international sporting event. Vmoto’s expansion into cleaning vehicles may provide added revenue for the business but could also provide a solution to many local governments both in Australia and China to reducing emissions locally.
