Turbines spinning for first time at Kennedy solar-wind-battery project

Published by

After months of waiting, the turbines are now spinning at Windlab’s world-leading Kennedy solar-wind-battery project in north Queensland.

The company, which faced delays of more than six months from completion of construction before it could connect to the grid – as well as other issues, including flooding – tweeted on Tuesday that the first generating had finally occurred.

The unique energy hub – the first in the world to combine all three technologies on a major grid – will feature 43MW of wind, 15MW of solar and a 4MW/4MWh Tesla battery. Full commissioning is expected by the end of this quarter. A planned expansion will depend on enhanced networks.
