Sustainable House Day: More than 150 homes open this Sunday

Published by

PRESS RELEASE:

More than 150 of Australia’s best environmentally sustainable homes will open their doors to the public across the country this Sunday, September 11 on Sustainable House Day.

The national event will give people a rare view of exceptional homes designed, built or renovated with sustainability in mind and allow them to speak to and learn from homeowners.

Battery storage with solar, green roofs, off-grid living, hemp walls and innovative sustainable gardens are just some of the features people are likely to see on Sustainable House Day.

Sustainable House Day is run by the not-for-profit Alternative Technology Association (ATA) and sponsored by the Australian Government’s Department of the Environment and Energy.

Donna Luckman, ATA’s chief executive, said the day would be a fun and informative experience, showing what was possible in sustainable living.

“Building or renovating green is not just good for the environment, it saves households money in the long-term and creates more comfortable homes,” Ms Luckman said.

“We’re delighted with the variety of homes that will be opening and the diversity of what people are likely to see.”

All homes opening their doors have a minimum of three sustainable features, including sustainable lifestyles and energy saving and healthy home practices.
