Redflow certifies GoodWe inverter with ZCell in Australia

PRESS RELEASE

Australian battery company Redflow Ltd has verified that the ES Series Inverter from GoodWe Power Supply Technology Co. Ltd. works with its new ZCell battery, allowing for easy deployment into Australian homes.

Now available in Australia, ZCell is a 10 kilowatt hour (kWh) zinc-bromine flow battery that can ‘timeshift’ solar power from day to night, store off-peak power for peak demand periods and support off-grid systems. Redflow received its first shipment of batteries for ZCell last month and has announced its first ZCell installers, which provide national coverage for quoting and installing ZCell-based energy storage systems.

Redflow undertook extensive testing at its Adelaide-based battery lab to ensure ZCell can work quickly and easily with the GoodWe ES Series inverter charger, a process simplified by the purpose-built ZCell battery management system (BMS).

The GoodWe ES Series bi-directional energy-storage inverter works with both on-grid and off-grid photovoltaic (PV) systems, intelligently controlling the flow of energy. During the day, solar panels generate electricity for use by the house, charging the battery or feeding into the grid. ZCell can release stored energy when needed at night. Additionally, the power grid can also charge ZCell via the inverter when the sun does not shine.

Redflow CEO Simon Hackett, who oversaw the inverter verification process, said the GoodWe inverter worked perfectly with ZCell. “Certifying the GoodWe inverter to work with ZCell is part of our commitment to make sure that ZCell is a quick and easy battery to deploy,” he said.

GoodWe Power Supply Technology Co. Ltd. General Manager Min Huang said GoodWe was happy to expand the range of batteries that work with its inverters. “We look forward to seeing many customers using Redflow’s ZCell flow battery with our ES series inverter/charger products.” he said. “We see ZCell as a great new way to store energy with significant technical advantages compared to other battery types.”
