Plans for massive 600MW wind farm unveiled for Queensland

Renewable Energy Partners has unveiled plans to develop a 600MW wind farm, with up to 96 wind turbines across 14,000 hectares, its fourth wind farm project in Queensland.

REP is also exploring opportunities to co-locate solar PV and a big battery within the project area, near the town of Wandoan in the Western Downs region.

The project will be built on cattle-grazing land that is also peppered with coal seam gas wells, 400km northwest of Brisbane.

REP chief executive Luke McDonald said working with coal seam gas interests and on a layout plan amenable to  landowners and the community, as well as existing gas infrastructure, would be key to the project’s success.

“Allowing landowners to receive multiple income streams from both CSG and renewable energy-related activities and giving back to the local community is a win-win for everyone involved,” McDonald said.

The project aims to create 250 jobs during construction and 22 jobs during ongoing operations.

REP’s other Queensland projects include the 500MW Wambo wind farm being co- developed with Cubico, the 900MW Proserpine wind farm, 500MW Karma wind farm and 500MW Eungella wind farm, associated with the Bowen Renewable Energy Hub.

In full operation, REP forecasts the wind farm will reduce CO2 emissions by 1.1 million tonnes annually and power up to 172,000 homes.
