NSW gives green light to 200MW Avonlie solar farm

A 200MW solar and storage project proposed for New South Wales’ Riverina region has won development consent from the state planning department.

The project got the green light in the first week of August, and developer RES says it is now at the early works phase, at the site around 20km south of Narrandera.

According to project information page, the project will have around 667,000 solar panels mounted on either a fixed or single axis tracking system and an as-yet undefined amount – or source – of energy storage.

Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy has been appointed as the principal contractor of the solar farm’s early works.

The approved project adds to an impressive development pipeline for NSW, which is shaping up to overtake South Australia in the uptake of large-scale wind and solar generation at a rapid rate, according to this recent TAI report.

UK-based RES, meanwhile, has been developing renewables project in Australia for more than a decade, including the Murra Warra wind farm in Victoria, that will total 429MW once its second stage is completed.
