A new interactive map designed to chart Australia’s energy market transformation, spanning from ageing coal plants to solar-battery hybrids, has been launched by the Net Zero Economy Authority (NZEA).
The Net Zero Investment Map shows over 800 federal government-supported renewable energy and research projects located across the breadth of Australia and provides key details those projects.
The new resource was developed in partnership with RenewMap, a Canberra based market intelligence platform that provides stakeholders with information on new and existing solar, wind and storage projects across Australia and New Zealand, including proponents, location and development status.
The Net Zero Investment Map adds information including a project’s government support, estimated number of jobs created, total investment and expected power generation. For existing power stations, the map includes their announced closure dates along with contextual data like transmission lines and renewable energy zones.
“The Net Zero Investment Map highlights how Australia’s transition to a net zero emissions economy is already underway, with new investment, jobs and opportunities across the country,” said David Shankey, Net Zero Economy Authority CEO.
“The Net Zero Economy Authority helps coordinate Australia’s transition to net zero with clear, accessible information for communities, business and government. The Net Zero Investment Map is one of the tools that can help us do that.”
Not all Commonwealth projects are shown at the moment, but the Net Zero Economy Authority has promised to continue working to regularly update the map.
This marks the first time that net zero investments across a range of Commonwealth schemes have been highlighted in one place so as to provide communities, industry, and investors with a clear and consolidated accounting of Australia’s energy transformation.
“Australia has an extraordinary transformation ahead,” said Alex Thompson, director of RenewMap.
“By consolidating these projects into a single, interactive platform, the Net Zero Investment Map helps Australians understand the broad spectrum of Commonwealth investment across net zero research and renewable energy projects.”
