Inspiring green homes open their doors on Sustainable House Day

PRESS RELEASE

Australia’s most innovative green homes will be open to the public on Sustainable House Day, taking place on Sunday 17 September.

The national event will give people a rare view into exceptional homes designed, built or renovated with sustainability in mind and allow them to speak to and learn from homeowners.

Off-grid living, solar with battery storage, green roofs, hemp walls and innovative energy efficient design are just some of the features people are likely to see on the day.

This year, more than 170 houses will be open across Australia on Sustainable House Day with up to 20,000 people expected to attend.

Sustainable House Day is run by the Alternative Technology Association (ATA), a not-for-profit organisation that promotes sustainable living.

“Sustainable House Day provides a unique opportunity for people to come and learn how to make their own homes more environmentally friendly, comfortable and cheaper to run,” said Donna Luckman, ATA’s Chief Executive.

“Saving money on bills and being energy independent is a real concern for many households in today’s world, and this has been a key driver for many of the homeowners opening their homes this year.

“Sustainable House Day is a fantastic, fun day and a great opportunity to learn and be inspired,” Ms Luckman said.
