Greens propose Flat Earth Commissioner after Libs call for climate science inquiry

Published by

The Australian Greens have responded to reports of a Liberal push for an Inquiry into the scientific evidence behind man-made climate change by suggesting the government also establishes a Flat Earth Commissioner, to inquire “into the roundness or otherwise of the Earth.”

“If they still think the existence of human-caused global warming is up for debate, then maybe we should go right back to whether the earth is round or flat,” said Greens Deputy Leader and climate change spokesperson, Senator Larissa Waters on Thursday.

“The Government has already established a Wind Farm Commissioner to look into a syndrome that no credible health body or medical journal in the world thinks exists. A Flat Earth Commissioner could play an equally useful role.”

The Greens’ satirical motion, clearly designed to ridicule the ultra-conservative and climate sceptic Liberal core, also suggests the PM’s business advisor, Maurice Newman, should appear before the Inquiry to discuss whether the ‘round Earth theory’ is in fact a UN hoax.

“To give the Inquiry the scientific gravitas it deserves, perhaps Martin Ferguson could come out of retirement,” Waters adds.

We just hope the government gets that it’s a joke… stranger things have happened.
