Graph of the Day: Best performing wind farms in October

Published by

Wind farms in Western Australia have taken the top positions in the ranking of the best performing Australian wind projects for the month of October.

The top two positions in the assessment of capacity factors by energy consultants Rystad Energy have been taken by the 89MW Walkaway wind farm and the 130MW Badgingarra wind farm (pictured) – both located north of Perth in what is one of the strongest wind regions in the country.

Another located in the same region, Emu Downs, also ranks in the top ten projects for the month, and the newly commissioned Yandin and Warradarge wind farms can be expected to also perform well.

Walkaway, also known as the Alinta wind farm, is owned and operated by Infigen Energy, whiles Badingarra and Emu Downs, both co-located with smaller solar farms, are owned by APA.

Of the other projects performing well in the latest month are five from Victoria, including the perennially strong performers Kiata and Cherry Tree wind farms, recently sold by UK-based Laing Group to one of Australia’s biggest funds managers First Sentier.

Silverton, near Broken Hill in NSW, also ranked highly, showing its potential when not constrained by grid congestion, while the recently complete Lincoln Gap wind farm in South Australia also performed well, and is about to add a second, and then possible a third, stage, including a big battery.
