Graph of the Day: Tesla sales over 360,000 worldwide

Amid all the talk of taking Tesla private this week, the CEO has given the world a sneaky look at numbers not often seen in public.

Over 360,000 Teslas have been delivered globally, a new graph tweeted by CEO Elon Musk shows.

The data goes back 10 years, to 2008 when Ze’ev Drori was still CEO and the first production models of the Roadster started coming off the factory floor.

Musk announced the Model S later that year, succeeding Drori as CEO in October of that year.

The graph also shows numbers of cars with Tesla’s Autopilot on board. Just under a third carry Autopilot Hardware 1 which was introduced in 2014, and over half carry the 2016 version, Hardware 2.

Asked when Hardware 3 – the version that will come with the new computer kitted out with Tesla’s own AI chip – would be released, Musk replied, “Probably 4 to 6 months.”

Software with content for full self-driving will be released at the same time.

So hang on to your hats, as it looks like some Tesla drivers will soon be bound for a wild self-driving ride.
