Foyster’s cartoon: The climate and clean energy debate

The first ministerial-specific debate of the election campaign took place on Wednesday between environment minister Greg Hunt and his Labor counterpart Mark Butler.

Both sides pretty much stated their own positions – the Coalition’s 28 per cent reduction target by 2030, and Direct Action, and Labor’s 45 per cent reduction target and 50 per cent renewable energy target, and a mix of renewable incentives and a carbon price via an emissions intensive scheme.

There was some interest in solar tower and storage at Port Augusta, as we report here, and according to Hunt  Australia saved the planet through its interventions in the Montreal Protocol and the Paris climate agreement.
