Energy Insiders Podcast: Which Australian companies will go 100 per cent renewable?

In Australia, many corporates are turning to wind and solar to help power their businesses, but across the world 154 major companies have already committed to sourcing the equivalent of 100 per cent of their electricity needs from renewables.

Sam Kimmins, who heads the RE100 scheme, has been to Australia and explains why he is hopeful that some Australian-based companies will follow.

It should be noted some 75 of the international companies have operations in Australia and are doing it already, and some of the newly connected and committed wind and solar farms are being built specifically for those needs (Karadoc for CUB, and Kiamal for Mars).

Plus ITK analyst David Leitch let’s fly on the government’s proposed intervention in the energy market, firstly with a “default” price that could actually limit competition, and then with underwriting for new dispatchable generation, which now looks like a recipe for new investment in coal.

“It’s a disgrace,” Leitch says. It’s fair dinkum bullshit.”

It’s worth a listen.
