Energy Insiders Podcast: Games of Tone’s – Winter is Coming

Let’s call it the Game of Tone’s. The Energy Security Board has sliced and diced the modelling for the National Energy Guarantee in an effort to satisfy the wildest fantasies of former prime minister Tony Abbott and crew: Winter is Coming for wind, solar and big batteries.

That’s what the NEG modelling promises, along with a fall in prices thanks to something called “certainty”. In this episode, we look at just how laughable those predictions are, why it damages the integrity of the ESB, and wonder why no one in mainstream media dares challenge them.

We also share some stories from the Clean Energy Summit, where the division is growing over the NEG, and anger is rising.

And we have an interview with Peter Cowling, the head of wind turbine manufacturer Vestas Australia. As Cowling points out, the industry has momentum, and if government policy destroys it, expertise and capital equipment will flee Australia, and costs will rise.

You can find this and other episodes of Energy Insider here, as well as Solar Insiders, including our recent episode and the interview with Shawn Qu, the head of Canadian Solar.
