Energy Insiders Podcast: Australia’s place in the global solar market

Ivan Higuearas, the international head of Spanish-based solar contracting group Gransolar, joins Energy Insiders to discuss Australia’s place in the global solar market, cost trajectories and some interesting ideas about battery storage.

Gransolar has recently completed the 100MW Lilyvale solar project in Queensland, and is looking to contract several other projects in the near future. Higuearas has concerns about the new Queensland rules on solar installations, and says the key for federal policy is certainty.

Higuearas also has fews on non specialist solar contractors entering the market – see problems at RCR and Tempo – and has some insight into the 1GW solar project in the UAE, and why the costs are so much lower than Australia, and some innovative thinking of how battery storage can be married with large scale solar.

Plus, we look at the AEMO quarterly update and the latest from the campaign trail on climate and energy.
