Chloe Munro Scholarship recipients announced for 2022

Published by
After nearly 200 applications were received, the Clean Energy Council is proud to announce the successful recipients of the 2022 Chloe Munro Scholarship for Transformational Leadership.

Now in its second year, the Chloe Munro Scholarship for Transformational Leadership focuses on supporting women who are emerging leaders in the fields of clean energy, energy management and carbon abatement and is delivered in partnership with our official Education Provider, Women & Leadership Australia.

Three recipients will undertake the Executive Ready course, a seven-month development program for middle to senior leaders, and seven recipients will undertake the Leading Edge course, a four-month development program for early-career leaders and managers.

“We’re incredibly thrilled to be adding to the talented cohort of women who received Chloe Munro Scholarships in the inaugural round of the program,” said Clean Energy Council Chief Executive, Kane Thornton.

“Despite the Australian clean energy sector performing better than the average for the global renewable energy industry when it comes to the employment of women, we know that it remains predominantly masculine, with more than 60 per cent of the workforce identifying as men. The representation of women drops further as we focus in on senior leadership roles or board positions.

“Skills development, knowledge-sharing and mentorship play an essential part in improving the representation of women in leadership roles.

“The benefits in creating greater equity in leadership will go beyond the renewables industry.”

Allume Energy’s Mio Dart, who will now undertake a Leading Edge course said that while the further study will be “instrumental” to her own professional growth, there will be other benefits.

“It’s also an opportunity for me to filter any learnings through to those I mentor now and in the future, especially those who will play a key role supporting female leadership and balancing gender inequality.”

The Executive Ready winners are:

·         Maheshini Weerackoon – Acting Director Technical Services, LUMEA

·         Marnie Shaw – Senior Research Fellow, The Australian National University

·         Kim van Hattum – Manager East Coast, Fortescue Future Industries

·         Taegan Calnan – Senior Carbon Coordinator, Indigenous Land and Sea Corporation

·         Briar Blount – Legal Counsel, Iberdrola Australia

·         Leah Powell – Area Coordinator, Hydro Tasmania

The Chloe Munro Scholarship for Transformational Leadership has been established through the leadership of the Clean Energy Council and is supported by our partners ACEN Australia, the Australian Energy Market Operator, the Australian Renewable Energy Agency, the Carbon Market Institute, the Clean Energy Finance Corporation, the Energy Efficiency Council, Goldwind, GreenCollar, Hydro Tasmania, Iberdrola Australia, the Monash Energy Institute, Sentient Impact Group and the Victorian Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning.
