Simec Energy’s Marc Barrington joins the Energy Insiders podcast to discuss the Gupta company’s plans for clean energy, and providing “baseload” renewables product to big energy users.

Simec Energy is implementing Gupta’s plans for a 1GW solar and storage facility to power the Whyalla steelworks and other big energy users. It includes a big battery which now has a name, the Playford Utility Battery (or PUB), which will be built in Port Augusta.

Barrington reveals Simec is talking to a major mining group about a clean energy contract, and also says the government’s underwriting proposal for new dispatchable generation could significantly reduce the cost of finance for companies like Simec.

Will they get a look in? The co-hosts take stock of the latest Coalition announcements, including the rubbish new climate plan, and the bizarre attempts to commit billions to pumped hydro without revealing the business plan, and to offer a contract to a Tasmania project that has not yet even been identified.
