Australian Energy market Operator chief executive Audrey Zibelman joins the Energy Insiders teams to discuss the newly released Integrated System Plan.

You can find our stories on this ISP here, and here. If you are wondering why they contrast with what you may read in the Murdoch media, or even on the ABC, it’s because it’s a little like art.

“People try and look at it and get the perspective they want to draw from it,” Zibelman says.

“I’m hoping that what everyone sees – is that this is the pragmatic and thoughtful and evidence-based approach to what’s incurring in the industry.”

And what is occurring is a rapid transition to renewables – because wind, solar and storage are cheaper – that could see nearly 50% of Australia’s electricity demand met by renewables by 2030, even under the “neutral scenario”, and more than 60% in the fast change scenario.

Can we still enjoy a reliable and secure supply with this share of renewables.

“Absolutely,” Zibelman says.
