Clean Energy Media Prize awarded to RenewEconomy

RenewEconomy editor Giles Parkinson on Wednesday was awarded the Clean Energy Council’s Media Prize in 2012 for a series of articles on wind energy and solar energy published on RenewEconomy and in the Greenchip column, which appears in The Australian on Fridays.

The article published in the GreenChip column looked at the expansion of wind energy in South Australia, and was entitled “State’s wind farms debunk a few myths”.

The articles in RenewEconomy – Australia’s only independent source of daily news and analysis on clean energy – were for a series of articles addressing solar PV: its reduction in costs, its potential impacts on incumbent utilities (by far the most read story on this website since its launch in January),  and the potential political opportunities.

Other awards were given to the listed Australian cleantech company, Dyesol, which won the inaugural Innovation category for “ground breaking development in the development of Dye Solar Cell Technology”. Pacific Hydro, Australia’s largest independent renewable energy developer, won the Business Community Engagement Award for the development and implementation of a range of grass-roots community relations activities in Portland, Victoria, making a positive contribution to the local community.

Clean Energy Council chief executive David Green presented the awards as part of Clean Energy Week 2012, Australia’s premier annual renewable energy and energy efficiency event. Green said he was delighted by the growing interest in the awards, which had attracted a diverse and high-calibre range of entries.

“These awards honour those Australian companies, individuals and journalists that are leading the nation, and often the world, in the advancement of clean energy,” he said.
